The Centre for Strategic Energy and Resources has an International Advisory Panel (IAP) that provides advice and guidance to the Chief Executive Officer and Senior Management of CSER on strategic matters related to its vision and mission. The ambit of the IAP covers CSER’s direction, the relevance and impact of its work in enhancing energy security and sustainability, and the impact of its outreach and collaborative programmes. As a group, the IAP will meet physically during CSER’s Annual General Meeting.

Prof Richard Plumbly-Clegg is a UK scientist engineer with a broad background in academia, government, industry, business and the charity sector. He recently retired as the CEO of the Lloyd’s Register Foundation, a financially independent global charity with a unique mission to engineer a safer world focussed on the critical infrastructures that modern societies rely on. This covered sectors including energy, the ocean economy, shipping, food, and digital and data.
Richard started his career in the civil nuclear sector becoming Science Director for British Nuclear Fuels. He later became the Chief Scientific Advisor to the UK’s atomics weapons programme, and then founded the UK’s National Nuclear Centre of Excellence promoting peaceful uses of international nuclear energy and counterproliferation. During his time at Manchester University, Richard founded the Dalton Nuclear Institute and was the Associate Dean for Research in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
Richard is a Fellow of The Royal Academy of Engineering, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Distinguished Visiting Professor at NUS, and has an Honorary Doctorate from Lancaster University. He now sits on several Boards in different capacities including Chair of the Institute for the Public Understanding of Risk at NUS. His other non-exec and advisory roles include with the Raspberry Pi Foundation, the Science Museum Foundation, The Open Data Institute, and with HMG’s Health and Safety Executive’s Science Quality Assurance Group.
